"We don't feel like we're a rebel at all," Baszucki told Insider.

Roblox execs had been casting "a long view" toward this milestone for some 15 years, he added.

"We have employees, some have been with us for over 10 years, who may be selling. We have long-term investors who have been very consistent with our value of taking the long view, who may have sold some," Baszucki said. Now, on direct listing day, Baszucki said he was satisfied with the early results.

For the banks advising on the direct listing there were some distinct considerations that they faced, namely foregoing apportioning discounted shares to institutional investors including hedge funds and mutual funds.

Direct listings enable companies seeking to go public to essentially cut out many of the complicated rites of the IPO, going straight to shareholders by listing their shares on an exchange. 

There may be more innovation to come in terms of how companies go public.

Baszucki addressed that potential for future growth in his interview with Insider on Wednesday, too. 

"It's fair to say that, for the next several years, all of our growth projections are based on doing exactly what we do. There's amazing growth in connecting people around the world and connecting people of all ages on the platform," he said. "We're seeing a lot of growth in all ages. We're moving, over time, to a point where there'll be more 13-and-over people on our platform."
